Fire risk assessment survey
🔍 What Is a Fire Risk Assessment Survey?
A Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) is a structured inspection of a building to evaluate potential fire hazards and ensure the premises meet legal fire safety standards. The goal is to identify fire risks, assess who may be at risk, and provide practical steps to reduce or eliminate those risks.
During the assessment, the following are evaluated:
- Fire hazards present in the building
- People at risk, including staff, visitors, and vulnerable occupants
- Existing fire safety measures and their effectiveness
The findings are compiled into a detailed, written Fire Risk Assessment Report, which includes:
- A clear summary of identified risks (categorized as Low, Moderate, or High)
- A practical Action Plan with recommendations to improve fire safety
This report allows you to make informed decisions about whether existing risks are acceptable or if additional safety measures are needed — always aiming to reduce risk as far as is reasonably practicable.
It’s recommended that fire risk assessments are reviewed at least once every 12 months — or sooner if there are significant changes to the building. This includes:
- Alterations to the building layout or structure
- Changes in occupancy or the number of people using the premises
- Modifications to the building’s fabric or materials
- A change in the building’s use or purpose
Regular reviews ensure your fire safety measures remain compliant, effective, and tailored to current risks.
